Performance for Solo Conductor and Motion Capture
In Vitrum is a performance piece for a solo conductor and acousmatic music using motion capture and the Light Wall System. Drawing from the writings of writer and activist Valeria Canelas and the music of Sirah Martinez Alvarez, In Vitrum contemplates the experiences lived by an expatriate: the disappearance of forests and natural habitats and the resulting forced displacement of entire populations, the fragility of democracy in the face of authoritarianism, racism at the borders, patriarchy, and its multiple forms of violence.
Suggesting an imaginative, poetic, and lively narrative, this lightweight work is also a new adventure in introspection in the profession of choir/orchestra conducting. Starting from a basic technique of ensemble direction, encompassing flamenco, traditional Bolivian dances, and contemporary improvisation, In Vitrum aims to shift the conductor's posture towards a freedom of gestures understandable to all, with the idea of guiding the audience's listening towards the message of the text and the music.
