Aires Danzantes
Program for 4 instrumentalists and one singer

A sound journey inspired by ancient dances written for string instruments and organ. The instrumentalists of the Alkymia Ensemble invite us on a journey to 17th- and 18th-century Spain, Italy, and France. Chacones, tarantellas, folias, tientos, and pasacailles draw us into an imaginary dance that unites collective memories around the musical writings that punctuated dance encounters of the past, traveling across the European continent and even crossing the Atlantic.

In turn, composers from what are now Latin American territories inherited these musical forms, eventually creating their own versions, extending the dance spirit of Renaissance and Baroque music.
Thus, pieces by Diego Ortiz, Santiago de Murcia, Joan Cabanilles and Pablo Bruna join those of Domenico Zipoli and other composers from present-day Bolivia whose arrangements for an ensemble with viola da gamba, theorbo, organ, percussion and voice still resonate with the rhythmic modes of the old continent.
